Pasture Management

When we purchased the property, the pasture had generally not been renovated in decades, and was largely native grass with lots of cattle tracks!

Every year we plant new annual crops for hay and silage to maximise production from areas being harvested. This saves time and wear and tear on machinery at harvest time, and maximises remaining areas for grazing. We also try and renovate paddocks that have not been renovated in recent times each year, planting an annual crop one year and then returning them to perennial pasture.

Our horses really enjoy clover hay (Shaftal and Taipan Balansa generally) and the cattle appreciate a good quality silage (Megabite Vibe and Bullet annual Ryegrass generally).

So far, two out of six horse paddocks have been reseeded with the Southern All Purpose Equine blend which is proving very successful.
